Are ranger battalions like first in last out kind of units and do they do missions durring peace time?

like peace keeping missions or battle gurillas in 3rd world countries like sf members do? are ranger battalions about as skilled in UCW (unconventional warfare) as SF members? thanks guys leaveing soon and i want to be informed becuae my recruiter gets all pissy.
