Should I call my friend?

Today I had to pick my brother up from an event in a couple of hours. My friend is in the area so I was thinking I could call him up and hang out with him until I have to pick uo my brother. The problem is we haven't hung out since high school end (4 months ago). We text occasionally but it's me was initiating (he doesn't always answer back). We had to plans to hangout yesterday but he had "errands" to do. He said he'd let me know when they were done but never contacted me. Should I call him to try and hangout or give him his space?
