Does it sound like I am using our children as "leverage"?

I told my abusive ex that I would not bring out 2 children around until he is ready to stop being abusive towards me, especially in front of them. He shouts at me really aggressively, name calls, puts me down and threatens me and my pets. My exact word to him were "I will not bring the children over until you are ready to stop being abusive". He thinks this is unreasonable and that I am using the children as leverage to get what I want. I feel it is bad for my kids to see him treating me this way, often for hours at a time. I do not like being threatened. He says he can treat me however he wants. What do you think? Was I being unreasonable? Is this really using the kids as leverage?
