When will the 2.2 update for Samsung Captivate come out and is it risky to get?

I currently have an iPhone 3g that has almost had it and saw the samsung captivate. So I looked at the specs and saw it had 2.1 and said 2.2 not out yet. When will it come out and if it is already out where can I get it once I get my captivate?
