Why were there no vowels in the Hebrew alphabet? It's mind-boggling.?

Its like arabic.. Arabic has no vowels in their alphabet, but during the caliphate of Umar, he added vowels to it by putting lines and symbols on top of the letters, this is so dat confusion does not occur.. BTW, Arabic n hebrew are from the same language family
