Do those who want their country back yearn for the good old days?

Racism is a part of mainstream American politics and always will be. However, I don't think the tea party groups are all racists; I think there is racist element therein, but I also think we can see a small number of strong fiscal conservatives as well. Unfortunately, the voices of the honest conservatives have been drowned out by the extremists (which includes the racists, birthers, and white supremacists).
